Home was a unique, inclusive mass dance event performed at Middlesbrough Mela in 2024. commissioned by Borderlands and produced by TeesDance, the project was several months in planning. Rehearsals R&D workshops involving diverse communities across Middlesbrough collaborated with a group of professional dancers to develop the project.
A few weeks before the Mela was due to take place, a horrific murderous attack on children at a Summer dance school was perpetrated, and the subsequent outbreak of mindless racist violence across the towns of cities of Northern England prompted the organisers to call off the Mela. Teesdance decided to proceed with a 'closed' performance of Home in Albert Park, as a dress rehearsal, and for the benefit of the camera. The Mela was rescheduled for the following month, and Home was performed to the public.
The Move:Still photography project was inspired by the resilience, creativity and positivity embodied in Home.
